Pouille wraps up 10th Davis Cup title for France

France beat Belgium 3-2 in the final, Lucas Pouille prevailing over Steve Darcis 6-3, 6-1, 6-0 in the decisive rubber. France won their 10th Davis Cup title when Lucas Pouille crushed Steve Darcis 6-3, 6-1, 6-0 to give the hosts a 3-2 victory in the final against neighbours Belgium on Sunday. Pouille was never threatened in the decisive rubber after David Goffin had given Belgium both their points with impressive displays in the singles. Les Bleus, however, had more strength in depth, winning a singles match through Jo-Wilfried Tsonga on Friday and Saturday's doubles with Richard Gasquet and Pierre-Hugues Herbert. It was their first title since they beat Australia away in 2001 before three defeats in the final in 2002, 2010 and 2014, while Belgium have yet to win the title, having now lost three finals after defeats in 1904 and 2015. Yannick Noah, the last Frenchman to win a Grand Slam title, celebrated his third title as captain after leading France to victory i...

England, skittled out for 195 off 71.4 overs on Day 4 after losing their last six wickets for 82, offered hardly any resistance as Warner (87 not out) and Bancroft (82 not out) hit up the required runs in the first session itself. He was given a life on 60 when he edged one off Jake Ball past first slip, but was anything but a Test match rookie and justified his selection over Matt Renshaw with a composed knock. Fittingly, he hit the winning runs. Warner was his usual aggressive self and looked good for a century before the match ended with him on 87, inclusive of 10 fours, off 119 balls. It was the highest opening stand in an Ashes Test for Australia since Justin Langer and Matthew Hayden combined for 185 at The Oval in 2005. The Australians, unbeaten at their Gabba fortress since 1988, were chasing down 170 runs for vi...
